Description

Created as an independent oversight agency to review the operations of the MTA and its constituent agencies: the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), Metro-North Commuter Railroad (MNR), Long Island Bus (LIB), the New York City Transit Authority (NYCT), MTA Bridges & Tunnels (B&T), MTA Bus Company, and MTA Capital Construction (CC).
The Inspector General is appointed by the Governor with Senate advice and consent for a five-year term. Among its functions, powers and duties, the office performs audits and receives and investigates complaints from any source or upon its own initiative concerning alleged abuses, frauds and service deficiencies.
