Description

The federal legislation establishing the National Museum of the American Indian was signed into law in 1989. It authorized three facilities: The George Gustav Heye Center, now open in NYC; the Cultural Resources Center, in Suitland, MD, which opened in 1999, and the National Museum on the Mall in Washington, DC, which opened in 2004.
