First Deputy Mayor

Description

The First Deputy Mayor is the highest-ranking official at City Hall after the Mayor. He is responsible for carrying out the Mayor’s agenda, and plays a key role in shaping major policy initiatives. The First Deputy Mayor advises and assists the Mayor regarding all policies, planning and programs related to the management of the Police Department, the Department of Education, and the Department of Investigation. He directly supervises and coordinates with the Department of Correction, the School Construction Authority, the Department of Probation, the Office of Management and Budget, the Office of Labor Relations, the Office of Criminal Justice, the Office of Operations, the Office of Climate Policy and Programs, the Office of Policy and Planning, the Office of Recovery and Resiliency, OneNYC, and the Office of Sustainability. He maintains liaison with and reviews the activities of the Civilian Complaint Review Board, the Board of Correction, the Charter Revision Commission, the Center for Economic Opportunity, New York State Public Service Commission, the Power Authority of the State of New York, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
