Small Business Services (SBS)

Description

The Department of Small Business Services (SBS) makes it easier for businesses in New York City to start, operate, and expand by providing direct assistance to business owners, fostering neighborhood development in commercial districts, and linking employers to a skilled and qualified workforce. SBS oversees a system of eighteen Workforce 1 Career centers located throughout the five boroughs, which provide the City's jobseekers with a full array of employment services, including job preparation, career advisement, training and job placement in a professional setting.

NYC Business Solutions is a set of services offered by SBS which include business courses, legal assistance, financing, navigating government, incentives, recruiting and training employees, selling to government and certification.

SBS also certifies, promotes, and fosters the growth of the City's minority and women-owned businesses and eligible small construction and construction-related businesses. SBS oversees and supports New York City's network of 76 Business Improvement Districts and has permitting jurisdiction for construction work on all City-owned waterfront property and all private property used for maritime purpose.
