The VAB is established pursuant to Section 14 of the New York City Charter. It is charged with advising the Commissioner of the Department of Veterans’ Services on all matters concerning veterans, Active Duty, Reserve and Guard components of the military services here in New York City. The VAB functions through the contributions of 11 veterans who have been appointed to 3 year terms by the Mayor (6) and the Speaker of the New York City Council (5). Members represent the five boroughs of New York City and hold at least one public meeting in each borough on an annual basis.
